One Team - One Spirit
Team spirit is a key component of the baiji.org-IHB freshwater conservation partnership initiatives programme. The Pilot Yangtze Freshwater Dolphin Expedition required thirty people from different cultures and walks of life (many of whom had never met before) to spend nine days living and working together aboard the IHBÕs KeKao No.1 research vessel. Their willingness to understand each other and share the same vision produced solid scientific data and built strong partnerships for future cooperation.
Capacity Building, Research
The exchange of international knowledge and expertise plays an important role in the baiji.org-IHB partnershipÕs vision for developing of a successful baiji, finless porpoise and Yangtze recovery programme. The pilot created the perfect platform for invited experts Jay Barlow (NOAA), Bob Pitman (NOAA) and Beat Muller (EAWAG) to strengthen ChinaÕs human capacity for freshwater dolphin conservation and work in collaboration with scientists and PhD students from the IHB to develop an optimized data gathering strategy for the November 06 Wide-Range freshwater dolphin survey.
KeKao No.1 Life
Life aboard KeKao No.1 was a lot of fun. Some people even said that eight days wasnÕt long-enough! In addition to having the opportunity to see freshwater dolphins and porpoises, the never-ending cups of coffee and culinary delights produced by KeKaoÕs No.1Õs resident chef kept most of the residents happy. Some people however were not content with the lack of drama on the boat and decided to create there own É photos of AugustÕs bloody night in Xintankou coming soon!
